At Rosson Audio Design

We take immense pride in crafting headphones, especially our transducers. Our headphones are not just tools for enjoying music, but also symbols of our commitment to human craftsmanship and attention to detail. We believe that sound is an essential part of our lives and strive to create headphones that capture the essence of the music we listen to.

Our RAD-0 headphones are designed to deliver high-fidelity sound with exceptional aesthetics that reflect our passion and dedication. We work tirelessly to inspect every component of the RAD-0 multiple times during its creation and assembly, refusing to compromise on quality. Our team's expertise, coupled with our careful attention to detail, results in a headphone that is built to last.

At Rosson Audio Design, our artisans are also our engineers, ensuring that the RAD-0 delivers the accuracy demanded by professionals and the refinement craved by audiophiles. Each unit is carefully tuned, pre-burned for over three hundred hours, and thoroughly tested to meet our rigorous standards.

We believe that the art of crafting handmade headphones reflects our unwavering commitment to excellence. Our passion for music and love for our craft shine through in every RAD-0 headphone we produce. So, let us help you indulge your obsession with music.

66mm Transducer

Designed and manufactured at our lab in Reseda, California, the 66mm transducer lies at the heart of the RAD-0. With our use of a composite diaphragm material, unique circuit design, and array of 11 N52 neodymium magnets, the listener is able to enjoy the most responsive and pleasing sound of any planar magnetic headphone ever built.

Rings

Our goal from the start was to create an aesthetic design worthy of our premium sound. Using materials such as Micarta, stabilized choice woods, rocks, gems, and other unusual materials we can fit into our casting mold, no two rings will ever be the same. The rings are a chance to express your style and personality. Short of concentrated dark matter, if you have a special object that you want casted into a pair of one-of-a-kind rings, visit our custom shop.

Headband

Weight management is always a difficult factor with planar magnetic technology, which is why we pay close attention to the headband. We focus on offsetting the weight with balanced headband curvature, proper clamping force, and perfectly dense ear pads. The result is the most comfortable planar headphone with the smoothest size adjustment design ever created.

Assembly & Testing

While one team works on the rings, another team assembles the headphones in small batches. We “preburn” every pair at 120dB for a minimum of 15 days to ensure they are ready for our listeners to enjoy. The speakers then go through a final round of testing to validate they are within +/-0.3dB for both left and right channels.

Customer Feedback

“Just want to congratulate you and thank you for a great headphone. Among planars, I own the HE1000se and the D8000 together with your RAD-0. I can tell you the RAD-0 quickly became my favorite planar and my go to together with my Utopia (with the Kimber Axios AG cable). The RAD-0 sound signature is a perfect match to my taste. Thank you!!!”

OK. The low end on these headphones is absolutely astonishing. I just heard some shit in a recording I’ve listened to probably a hundred or more times (on some very good systems) that I have NEVER noticed before. I had to take the headphones off three times before rewinding to confirm that it was in fact the recording, and not someone walking on my roof. Color me super, super impressed.

- Chris

I have tested my 010/100 extensively now… everything from Jazz (Miles’ Kind of Blue SACD), to Hard-Rock/Metal (Tool’s Lateralus), to Rock (Vinyl of Talk Talk - Colour of Spring and Laughing Stock; Talking Heads, Remain In Light; Steely Dan - Aja), Acoustic (Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left)… Mozart’s Requiem… you name it… and the results have been mind blowing… hats off to you and the team at RAD! Unbelievable snappy fast bass that’s clean and never muddy, strong midrange definition and great clarity at the top end. Love the soundstage too as experienced listening to some tracks off Floyd’s WYWH, The Wall and Final… Seriously awesome to my ears!

I just wanted to write you and say a massive thank you!!! Just know that receiving the RAD-0’s is definitely one of the highlights of recent times. Being able to hold the headphones, I went “wow.” It’s beautifully crafted, the personal note, from the packaging, to the design, to the materials… even the box it shipped in! The logos painted outside. I’m in love and can’t wait to explore and see what these can do for me and the audio world. Thank you once again!

- Alex

“Seriously, I wanted to thank you personally for the design, and the sound of the RAD-0. I took a chance and I bought a pair on headlamp because I had never heard the RAD-0, and my surprise was huge. They will have a special place in my collection. I seriously prefer RAD-0 than to my Meze Emperyan … congratulations for your good work, I look forward to seeing your next model. Thank you very much for your good work.”

HEADFONIA BEST HEADPHONE OF 2019

I first listened to the RAD-O at London’s Canjam show and I was immediately hooked. I can’t remember what they were driving it with there but I at home have it hooked up to my Auris Audio Nirvana headphone amplifier, so I can switch back and forth between single ended and balanced.

Because of the link with Audeze, you expect to hear an Audeze style sound when you put it on for the first time, but to me it’s better. Great dynamics and fullness are things we already know, but the natural presentation, air and spaciousness of the RAD-O is something else. The sound stage is wider and deeper as well and as a result you get everything you expected and a lot more.

Full sounding bass with great impact, with the typical planar characteristics. The mids are rich and layered with a natural presentation and especially the treble is lively, energetic, precise and for a planar, quite extended. It’s not a neutral and analytic presentation, but a musical and dynamic one. The musicality and engagement factor is high, and you’ll be head shaking, singing and foot-tapping in no time.

The RAD-0 is a high end headphone for the music-lover and so far we love every bit of it.

Ausgesprochen verlockend!

The RAD-0 resonates in the same way the D8000 impressed me in terms of being an absolute riot to listen with for my old rock and modern dance hall anthems. Like the D8000, the RAD-0 is not a reference headphone in the traditional sense. It is tuned for listening and enjoying your music at a very high level. On that score, the overall balance and seductive timbre are just brilliant.

Pair this with a punchy amp and resolving DAC and you get one heck of a presentation with a strong emphasis on a solid but controlled pure planar bass response and slightly intimate mids with excellent vocal performances.

The one thing that stands above all others is just how well Alex has tuned the treble of the RAD-0. Quite a lot of planar headphones deliver uneven treble performances and some overcompensate by dulling it down to avoid peakiness or overtones that upset the harmonic balance. Not so with the RAD-0. It’s treble is both energetic yet wet enough and smooth enough to avoid any accusation that it is peaky, too thin or uneven sounding.

And this excellent treble tuning in turns delivers an excellent instrumental timbre that is both exciting with just enough bass/treble contrast and ‘sweet’ enough for excellent long-term listening potential. I commented in my original CanJam Singapore 2019 report that the RAD-0’s treble sounded better than Audeze’s tuning on the LCD-4 and I stand by that now 5 months later.
